About seven bridges in Central and Western Railways are stuck due to incomplete work by the Municipal Corporation despite being completed under the Railway jurisdiction, which include Karnak Bridge, Charni Road, Gokhale, Vikhroli, Nahur, Diva Bridge. The work of one side girder on Karnak Bridge near CSMT has been completed and approval is awaited for the girder on one side, by then one lane traffic could have started here, but this work is still incomplete. local people say that this bridge is better for coming from P D'Mello Road to Crawford Market and Crawford Market to P D'Mello, if even one lane of this bridge was started then people could cover this distance in 5 minutes, but the Municipal Corporation has not started work for this yet.
Vidyavihar Bridge
The BMC is building an overbridge for east-west traffic at Vidyavihar station, which will be beneficial for traffic on Ghatkopar Mahul Road and LBS Road from the Eastern Express Highway. The total length of the bridge is about 480 meters, the construction of which started in 2018. The work of installing two steel girders of 99.34 meters on ten railway lines was completed two years ago. The first up lane girder was placed in May 2023, while the second was placed in november 2023. Since then, common people have been waiting for the bridge. Officials say that the work is still incomplete due to land acquisition problems on both sides of the bridge.
Nahur Railway Bridge
This is a road overbridge as per the plan. This bridge is originally four lanes, but work on building two new lanes on both sides has just started. For this, girders were laid on the railway lines in january 2023, but work has been going on at the BMC site for two years. At Nahur, several utility lines, including MTNL cables and gas pipelines, had to be shifted. Officials say this has delayed construction. The Nahur Road overbridge is an important feeder route as it connects the proposed Goregaon-Mulund Link Road and LBS Marg, Eastern Expressway in the west to the railway line in the east as well as Airoli Junction at thane Bay but the work is still incomplete.
Vikhroli Railway Bridge
This bridge, located next to Vikhroli station, was earlier a level crossing but it caused delays for express and local trains. With the level crossing gates closed, Vikhroli residents lost east-west connectivity, necessitating the construction of a bridge. Girders were laid on the railway track at this location in april 2024, but work is still going on on both sides of the bridge and will take a few more months to complete. The project has been delayed due to the issue of land acquisition and rehabilitation of project victims.
Diva Railway Bridge
The work on the Diva road overbridge has also been stalled for several years. Girders were placed on the railway line for the bridge as early as May 2023. However, there are difficulties in constructing the approach road, especially on the west side as there are many buildings there. There are plans to convert all eight level crossings at Diva station into road over bridges. According to an official of the thane Municipal Corporation, the land acquisition work for the incomplete Diva bridge is still going on and the issue has also been raised before the Urban Development Department. Currently, preliminary works like construction of side drains and walls are going on.
