Congress mp from wayanad Priyanka gandhi Vadra has targeted the central government for the rupee reaching its lowest level ever against the US dollar. She criticized the Modi government on Saturday (January 11, 2025) and also sought an answer from prime minister narendra modi on this issue. She said that during the UPA government, the value of the rupee was linked to the prestige of the government.
The congress leader wrote on the social media platform X, "The value of the rupee against the dollar has reached its lowest level ever. For the first time in history, the value of one dollar has become Rs 86.4. During the tenure of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, when the value of one dollar was Rs 58-59, Narendra Modi ji used to link the value of the rupee to the prestige of the government. He used to say, "I know everything. The currency of any country cannot fall like this." Today he himself is the prime minister and all the records of the fall of the rupee have been broken. He should answer the people of the country."
How much did the rupee fall against the dollar?
On friday (January 10, 2025), the rupee fell by 18 paise against the US dollar for the first time, crossing the level of 86. Later it closed at 86.04 against the US currency. According to the report of news agency PTI, forex traders said that crude oil prices have increased abroad and in india too, a negative sentiment was created in the stock markets and due to this the indian currency has been affected.
What was the condition of the market?
The rupee opened at 85.88 in the market. After touching its highest level of 85.85 during trading, it crossed the level of 86 and closed at an all-time low of 86.04 against the dollar. On the other hand, on Thursday, the rupee closed at 85.86 with a gain of 5 paise against the US dollar.
