Former aam aadmi party (AAP) councilor Tahir Hussain on friday (January 10) sought interim bail from the delhi High court in a murder case related to the february 2020 riots. He has sought interim bail from the court to contest the delhi Assembly elections from Mustafabad constituency on the ticket of Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM. According to a PTI report, the petition was listed before Justice amit Sharma, who recused himself, after which it was listed before Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, but it was not heard.

Sought time from january 14 to february 9

In his petition scheduled for hearing on january 13, Hussain sought time from january 14 to february 9 to participate in the election process. So that he can physically file the nomination form and campaign. The application, filed by advocate tara Narula, is a part of Hussain's pending bail plea in the case.

What did Hussain say in the bail plea?

Hussain said in the bail plea that he has spent 4 years and 9 months in jail and though the trial in the case has begun, only 20 of the 114 prosecution witnesses have been examined so far. Hussain said that he has faced long imprisonment and since many witnesses are yet to be examined, the trial will not be completed soon. His plea said that the co-accused persons, allegedly involved in the rioting mob and committing the offence of murder, were granted bail by the High Court.

Violence broke out in northeast delhi on 24 february 2020

According to the prosecution, on february 26, 2020, complainant Ravinder Kumar informed the Dayalpur police station that his son Ankit Sharma, who was posted in the Intelligence Bureau, was missing since february 25, 2020. It was alleged that Sharma's body was recovered from Khajuri Khas drain in the riot-affected area and he had 51 injuries on his body.
