Aam Aadmi party (AAP) councilor Inderjit Kaur was elected the new mayor of ludhiana Municipal Corporation on monday (January 20). AAP's Rakesh Parashar was elected senior deputy mayor, while prince Johar was elected deputy mayor. Inderjit Kaur has been the principal of a private school. She has a degree in commerce. She has also done MBA and B.Ed. Apart from this, Kaur is the president of the women's wing of AAP in ludhiana district.
Who is Rakesh Parashar?
Former congress leader Rakesh Parashar is a five-time councilor. His brother ashok Parashar Pappi is an AAP mla from ludhiana Central. The post of ludhiana mayor was reserved for women this time. elections for the post of mayor of ludhiana Municipal Corporation were held soon after the swearing-in ceremony of 95 newly elected city councilors. In the civic elections held on december 21 last month, AAP emerged as the largest party by winning 41 out of a total of 95 wards. 48 votes are required to become the mayor here.
Congress-BJP boycotted
In this way, four congress councilors, two independents and one bjp councilor joined AAP, giving AAP a majority figure of 48. After the names were proposed for the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, congress and bjp councilors boycotted the House.
In the election, congress won 30 seats, bjp won 19 and Shiromani Akali Dal won 2 seats. Independents won 3 seats.
