Recently a news went viral on social media, in which it was claimed that the bank OF INDIA' target='_blank' title='reserve bank of india-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>reserve bank of india has banned the use of black ink on cheques. The government's press Information Bureau (PIB) called this claim false. It said that cheques written in black ink will be rejected only to increase security and prevent fraud.

The viral post claimed that following this new rule of RBI, people should now use only blue and green ink to write cheques. In the post, users were also advised to avoid light or blurred handwriting. On Thursday, PIB's official fact check account said, "It is being claimed on social media that RBI has issued new rules to ban the use of black ink on cheques. This claim is false. The bank OF INDIA' target='_blank' title='reserve bank of india-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>reserve bank of india has not prescribed any specific color of ink to be used for writing cheques.''
RBI rules for writing cheques
(Check Truncation System) Three photographs of every cheque are taken in CTS - front grey scale, front black and white and back black and white. customers have been advised to use colours for writing cheques based on these so that there is no problem in seeing the information written on the cheque. Along with this, to avoid any kind of fraud, customers have been advised to use only one ink for writing cheques. However, the Reserve bank has not said about using any specific colour of ink for writing cheques.
Corrections in cheques are not allowed
customers should also know that cheques with changes or modifications are not accepted under the Check Truncation System (CTS). It should be kept in mind that no change or correction of any kind can be made in the cheque. If necessary, the date can be changed. Apart from this, no correction is acceptable.
