PM Modi Mourns Loss Of Lives In maha Kumbh Stampede, Says He Is In Constant Touch With UP CM

PM Modi said the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way.

Maha Kumbh Stampede: PM narendra modi mourned the loss of lives during a stampede at the maha Kumbh mela ahead of Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday. 


"The accident that happened in Prayagraj maha Kumbh is extremely sadMy deepest condolences to the devotees who have lost their loved ones in this. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured,PM Modi said in a post on X.


He said the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way. "In this regard, I have spoken to chief minister Yogi Ji and I am constantly in touch with the state government,he added.


Earlier, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said some devotees were "seriously injuredin the stampede that broke out in the Sangam area of the maha Kumbh early wednesday as crores of pilgrims jostled for space to take a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.


"Between 1 am to 2 am, at the akhara route where arrangements were made for the Amrit Snan of the akharas, some devotees crossed over the barricades and were critically injured. They were immediately rushed to hospital where treatment was promptly ensured,” he said after a high-level meeting in Lucknow.


Adityanath also said that prime minister narendra modi, Union home minister amit shah, and bjp chief jp nadda had called him up since morning to take stock of the situation.


Adityanath appealed to people to take a dip in the ganga at their nearest ghats and not try to reach the Sangam Nose.


Officer on Special Duty for the mela Akanksha Rana earlier said, "Some people have got injured and have been hospitalized after a barrier broke at the Sangam. We are yet to have the exact count of those injured".
