Due to the sudden increase in the pressure of the crowd at Sangam Nose in maha Kumbh and the breaking of the barricades for the akhadas, people started climbing on the devotees sleeping on the ground. What happened after that has shaken the entire state. This is not the first time that a stampede has happened in maha Kumbh. Even before this, people have lost their lives due to the crowd. After india got independence, maha Kumbh was organized in allahabad in the year 1954. In this maha Kumbh too, a crowd of lakhs gathered on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. The administration was unable to handle it and such a stampede occurred that 800 people lost their lives. In this accident, many people died by drowning in the river.
50 lives were lost in Haridwar Mahakumbh
Mahakumbh was organized in Haridwar in the year 1986. An accident also occurred in this Mahakumbh. At that time, UP cm Veer Bahadur Singh had come to Haridwar to take a dip along with Chief Ministers and MPs of many states. It was told that during this time when people tried to go to the ghat of river Ganga, a stampede occurred in which 50 people lost their lives. After this, in the Mahakumbh organized in ujjain in the year 1992, 50 people lost their lives due to stampede.
Accidents also occurred in Nashik and Allahabad
A stampede also occurred in the Mahakumbh held in Nashik, maharashtra in the year 2003. In which more than 30 people were killed while more than 100 people were injured. A similar accident was seen in Haridwar in the year 2010, in which 5 people lost their lives. In the year 2013, an accident took place during the maha Kumbh mela in allahabad, when a footbridge collapsed at the railway station, in which 36 people lost their lives.
And now in the maha Kumbh organized in Prayagraj in 2025, a stampede occurred due to the increasing crowd, due to which 30 people have lost their lives. cm Yogi held a big meeting with the officials after this accident and has instructed the officials to ensure the safety of the devotees.
