The accused in the murder case of rationalist Govind Pansare in maharashtra have got relief for the time being. The bombay high court has granted bail to the accused on wednesday (29 January) on the basis of long imprisonment. Govind Pansare was murdered in the year 2015. A single bench of Justice A S Kilor accepted the bail plea of six accused Sachin Andure, Ganesh Miskin, amit Degvekar, amit Baddi, Bharat Kurane and Vasudev Suryavanshi. They were arrested on different dates between 2018 and 2019 and have been in jail since then. Justice Kilor said, I am accepting the bail plea of six accused due to long imprisonment. Shot during morning walk
The rationalist and his wife Uma were returning home from a morning walk in Samrat nagar area of Kolhapur when two motorcycle-borne men fired multiple rounds at them before fleeing. Initially, the case was handled by Rajarampuri police station in Kolhapur. The investigation was later transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Additional director General of police (CID) of Maharashtra.
Case transferred to ATS
Dissatisfied with the lack of progress in tracing the accused, Pansare's family had sought transfer of the case to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). On august 3, 2022, the high court transferred the investigation to the ATS after there was no progress or breakthrough in the case. Two shooters in the case are still absconding.
The high court had ordered to expedite the case
The high court was monitoring the investigation into the case, but earlier this month the court said it would not continue to do so. However, the high court had ordered to expedite the hearing of the case and conduct daily hearings.
Let us tell you that Communist party leader Govind Pansare was shot dead at his residence in Kolhapur on 16 february 2015. After this, the state government formed an SIT and started investigating the case. However, the investigation in this case did not get any success until the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh was revealed in Karnataka. After the karnataka ATS came to maharashtra in the Gauri Lankesh case and arrested the accused, it came to light that there was only one accused in the Dabholkar-Pansare murder case.
