India-ASEAN: Where are the differences?

There are differences between india and ASEAN on some issues. India buys more goods from ASEAN countries and sells less. Due to this, india is facing a trade deficit of about 40 thousand million dollars every year. india is worried that it is not getting as much facility in the markets of ASEAN countries as it should get.

At the same time, india withdrew from the trade agreement called 'Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership' (RCEP) in the year 2019. india feared that due to this agreement, cheap goods from china would come to india through ASEAN countries, which would harm indian industries.

India has demanded changes in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) so that the imbalance in trade can be reduced and other obstacles can be removed. But, there has not been much progress in this matter so far.

Many plans have been made to connect india and ASEAN countries, but most of these works are going on very slowly. Due to this, India's image is getting damaged.

India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway: This road will connect India's northeastern states to Southeast Asia, but its construction is getting delayed. Sometimes the work stops due to lack of money, sometimes due to unrest in Myanmar.

Kaldan Project: This project will connect India's northeastern states to the sea, but it is also facing many obstacles. Sometimes it is security concerns, sometimes it is the slow pace of work.
