Mauni Amavasya: more than 700 trains!

On Mauni Amavasya, the biggest bathing festival of Mahakumbh 2025 organized in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, crores of devotees took a dip of faith in the Sangam. For the smooth and safe movement of this huge crowd, Prayagraj Railway Division operated a record more than 700 trains. These included more than 400 fair special trains. Due to this excellent management of the railways, more than 20 lakh devotees could reach their destination safely in two days.

On the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, more than 8 crore devotees took a bath in the Sangam, while on the second day also about 2 crore people took a holy bath. In view of the arrival of devotees on such a large scale, Prayagraj Railway made arrangements for special trains, holding areas, color coded shelters and strict crowd management. According to the railway administration, more than 400 fair special trains were operated on january 29, while more than 300 trains including 175 special trains were run on january 30.

Successful operation of trains from major stations of Prayagraj

Prayagraj Railway operated trains from all the major stations of the city, including Prayagraj Junction (most trains ran from here), Naini, Chheoki, Subedarganj, Prayag, Phaphamau, Rambagh and Jhunsi railway stations. The railway implemented a special color coded ticketing system so that passengers could be sent in the right direction to their destination. Apart from this, the railway had made some special arrangements for safe and smooth travel, such as holding areas were created to protect passengers from the crowd and to reach the trains easily.

Apart from this, passengers going in different directions were stopped at different places through color coded shelters, so that there is no chaos at the station. Drinking water, toilets and first aid centers were made available at the stations. Senior railway officials constantly monitored crowd management, so that there is no chaos. Due to the unprecedented arrangements made by the railways, the pilgrims did not face any problem during the journey. Many passengers said that despite such a huge crowd, the journey was easy and safe.
