Out of the 59 communal riots that took place in 2024, 49 took place in states where the bjp is ruling either on its own or in alliance with other parties. The alliance partners include shiv sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and National congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) in maharashtra and Janata Dal in Bihar. Out of the 59 communal riots, seven took place in states ruled by the indian National congress, while three communal riots took place in West bengal where the trinamool congress is in power.
These riots promoted polarization in society and further strengthened the communal thinking of the people. The death toll may have been less, but their impact was very deep. One special thing about the 2024 riots was that they were not planned as well in advance as in earlier riots. The special thing is that during the communal riots in 2024, the maximum arrests were of Muslims. Out of a total of 546 arrests, 440, that is, a very large part, were from the Muslim community. Whereas a total of 28 people from the Hindu community were arrested.
On these figures, bjp leader Atif Rashid said, 'If 49 riots have happened in bjp ruled states, then why did 10 riots happen in non-BJP ruled states? Questions should be raised on these riots as well. This means that whenever a procession takes place, someone or the other instigates the other community. The government has nothing to do with any riot. If two common people fight somewhere, then the government is not responsible for it. The government is responsible only if the riots between those people continue for a month. Then the question should arise that why the government and the administration did not try to stop the riots. There would not be any riot in these 49 riots that lasted more than 10 hours.'
Atif Rashid, while raising questions on this report of CSSS, also said that these reports cannot be trusted, because the data should not be seen only for one year or two years. The comparison should be made of the riots that have taken place every year since 1947. The rioters have nothing to do with any religion, caste or political party. The government is responsible if those riots are allowed to flare up and no action is taken to stop them. Previous governments incited people for their political gains and made them riot for months.
