HC issues notice to police in Kalkaji temple accident…

The delhi high court has issued a notice on Mahant Surendranath's petition. In the petition, he had demanded cancellation of the FIR registered. The case is about the deaths due to electric shock in Kalkaji temple. Hearing Surendranath's petition, the court has sought a reply from delhi police and other concerned parties. The next hearing of the case will be on february 11. A tragic accident took place in october last year. Seven devotees died and many were burnt due to electric shock in the Kalkaji temple premises.

After the accident, the police had registered a case of death due to negligence against Mahant Surendranath, who looks after the temple. Mahant Surendranath has filed a petition in the high court demanding cancellation of the FIR. He has denied direct fault, calling the accident unfortunate.

Mahant's lawyer's side

Mahant Surendranath's lawyer told the court that he has paid compensation to the families of the four people killed in the accident. However, the families of the three other deceased have not been traced yet. They will also be given compensation when information is received. The delhi Municipal Corporation and the electricity Department had started an investigation into the accident.

What happened after the accident?

In the initial investigation, the electric wires were said to be the reason behind the accident. It was said that the condition of the electric wires in the temple premises was not good. After the incident, devotees accused the temple administration of negligence. Many organizations had demanded strict action against the culprits. The delhi high court has now fixed the next hearing of the case on february 11. The court has issued notices to the police and other parties and asked them to respond. Now it remains to be seen whether Mahant Surendranath will get relief or the investigation will proceed further.
