Bengaluru Metro Broadcasts Fare Hike Up To Rs Ninety, bjp Calls It 'Irrational'

Bengaluru's Namma Metro has introduced a fare hike from february 9, increasing travel prices for commuters. The best fare will rise from Rs 60 to Rs 90. Smart card customers will receive a 5 percent discount.

The announcement has drawn opposition from commuters as well as political events, with the bjp calling it an "irrational" move.

The Bangalore Metro rail business enterprise restrained (BMRCL) said the minimal fare will stay at Rs 10 for Trips up to two kilometres. Trips longer than 25 kilometres will cost Rs ninety.

The revised fare structure follows recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee.

The panel proposed a ten percent discount for smart card holders on weekends and countrywide holidays. An extra 10 percent bargain will apply during non-peak hours to encourage digital payments and ease ticketing congestion.

BMRCL earns about Rs 2 crore daily from metro operations. The fare increase is anticipated to generate about Rs eighty lakh greater every day, relying on passenger numbers.
