With Whom Are The Muslim Voters Of Delhi?

The Muslim community was said to be angry due to the inaction of the aam aadmi party (AAP) during the 2020 riots in delhi, but in the assembly elections, it gave priority to the 'broom'. In the elections held on all 70 assembly seats, AAP candidates have been successful in 5 out of 6 seats considered Muslim-dominated. However, AAP had to face defeat in Mustafabad seat. Last time its candidate Haji Yunus had won. This time four Muslim MLAs have won, while last time (2020) 5 Muslim MLAs reached the assembly. Six seats in delhi (Seelampur, Mustafabad, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, Okhla and Babarpur) are considered Muslim-dominated seats.

Hilal Ahmed, an expert on Muslim politics and associate professor at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), told news agency PTI-Bhasha, "This election was focused on candidates, because after the way the leaders changed parties before the elections, the voters voted by looking at the candidates." He said, "The way people have voted in the whole of delhi, the Muslim community has also voted in the same way. The Muslim community has also voted by looking at the candidates. Hilal ahmed said that in the areas where the aam aadmi party has performed well, the party had old candidates. Despite this, the Muslim vote has also been divided. BJP's victory in Mustafabad is the result of that." In response to a question, professor Hilal ahmed said, "Muslims do not vote to stop the BJP. 6 to 8 percent Muslims in delhi have always voted for the bjp, which is a candidate-centric vote."

A leader of aam aadmi party said that voting takes place in a strategic manner in delhi and all sections vote in this manner, including Muslims. On being asked about AIMIM, he said that both its candidates were such that people could not get work done in their localities.

Hyderabad mp Asaduddin Owaisi's All india Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) had fielded two candidates - Shifa-ur-Rehman from Okhla and Tahir Hussain from Mustafabad - and both its candidates are accused in the delhi riots case. They are currently in jail.

In Mustafabad, AAP candidate Adil Khan was defeated by Mohan Singh Bisht of bharatiya janata party (BJP) by 17,578 votes. On this seat, AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain stood third with 33,474 votes and Congress' ali Mehdi got 11,763 votes. Even though AAP's Muslim face Amanatullah Khan won in Okhla, his victory margin was much less compared to last time. AIMIM candidate Shifa-ur-Rehman from this seat came third by securing 39,558 votes.
