Police detained students protesting at Jamia University…

Police have detained more than 10 students for protesting against disciplinary action taken against 2 PhD students at Jamia Millia Islamia University. The PhD students were given a 'show cause' notice for organizing the protest last year. The protest against this action started on Monday. Meanwhile, the university administration has claimed that the protesting students damaged university property including the 'central canteen' and broke the door of the security advisor's office, forcing the administration to take action.

Action taken at four in the morning

A police source said that after receiving a request from the university administration, we removed more than 10 students from the protest site at four in the morning. Apart from this, we have deployed a large number of policemen outside the campus to maintain law and order. "The students have been taken to three different police stations - Kalkaji, Sunlight Colony and Badarpur. The administration and police have deployed paramilitary forces to deal with any unpleasant situation. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed outside the university, while delhi police is constantly monitoring the situation through drones.

This protest has been going on for the last several days, in which student organizations are raising their voice on various issues.

● Disciplinary action against Saurabh should be canceled - students say that the university administration is deliberately conducting a disciplinary committee hearing against student leader Comrade Saurabh, which is against democratic values.

● Show cause notice should be withdrawn - There is a demand to cancel the show cause notice issued by the administration to many students with immediate effect.

● The process of suppressing the voice of students should be stopped - The protesting students allege that the university administration is trying to silence them by taking disciplinary action against the protesting students.

● Freedom to make posters and graffiti should be given in the campus – The university administration has banned putting up posters and graffiti on the walls, which the students consider an attack on freedom of expression.

● The right to peaceful protest should be protected – students say that they have a constitutional right to raise their voice on their issues, which should not be taken away under any circumstances.

● Policies to harass students should be stopped – The protesters are also alleging that the administration is trying to intimidate and threaten the student leaders.
