Budget proposal of Rs 17000 crore presented in MCD!

The Municipal Corporation of delhi (MCD) on thursday (13 February) presented a budget of Rs 17,000 crore, in which Rs 4,907.11 crore has been set aside for cleanliness. MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar presented it in a special budget meeting. According to this, Rs 1,693.73 crore has been allocated to the education sector, while Rs 1,833.51 crore has been set aside for the health sector. Rs 393.26 crore has been allocated to the horticulture department, which reflects efforts to increase green areas.

According to the budget speech, about 6000 tonnes of construction waste is generated daily in the delhi Municipal Corporation area, for which plants with a total capacity of 5000 tonnes have been set up in Bakkarwala, Ranikhet, Shastri Park and Burari. Another plant is being set up in Tehkhand. Work is underway to set up bio-methanation plants to process 200 metric tonnes of dung/vegetable waste per day, which is likely to be completed by march 2025.

The Corporation has also installed about 211 small pit composters, which have a capacity to dispose of about 543 TPD of wet waste. Three contracts of 80 lakh tonnes have been awarded for legacy waste at Okhla, Ghazipur and Bhalswa landfill sites, the work of which is in progress.

Establishment of Engineering Landfill Site

For setting up an engineering landfill site, the delhi Development Authority (DDA) has given 47.348 acres of land to the Corporation, out of which an engineering landfill site has been set up on 32.346 acres of land in march 2024. Ash from Tehkhand, Okhla and other power plants is being disposed of at this place.

There is a plan to set up a waste-to-energy plant in Ghazipur

The Municipal Corporation of delhi has set up four waste-to-energy plants in Okhla, Narela-Bawana, Tehkhand and Ghazipur, which process 6,550 TPD of waste to produce electricity. Apart from this, there is also a proposal to start work on setting up a waste-to-energy plant of 3600 TPD capacity in Narela-Bawana and both these plants of three thousand TPD capacity are expected to be operational in december 2027 and 2028. After the establishment of these plants, the garbage going to landfill sites will almost end.
