Synthetic diamonds worth Rs 5 crore seized at mumbai airport!

CISF personnel deployed at Mumbai's Chhatrapati shivaji Maharaj international (CSMI) airport have caught a man smuggling synthetic diamonds worth Rs 4.93 crore. The passenger had hidden the diamonds in a laptop bag.

The CISF said that on the night of february 12 at 1:18 pm, an indian passenger Bharatbhai Govindbhai Nathani reached the airport to catch a NOK airlines flight to Bangkok. The flight was scheduled to take off from Terminal 2 at 2:50 pm. After completing the necessary check-in formalities, he reached the security check area with his hand bag.

During the screening, CISF screener Constable Subhodh Kumar saw a suspicious image on the X-BIS machine. When this image was closely examined, it was found that an unknown object was hidden in the battery compartment of the laptop bag. Keeping in mind the profile and suspicious image of the passenger, it was decided to thoroughly check the bag. CISF officer Meena mukesh Kumar, who was on duty for physical check, thoroughly searched the bag and found 26 synthetic diamonds hidden in small transparent packets inside the laptop battery compartment.

The passenger and the recovered diamonds were immediately handed over to the air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Customs officials at mumbai airport. According to AIU/Customs officials, the total weight of the recovered synthetic diamonds was 2147.20 carats, with an estimated market value of Rs 4.93 crore.

The swift and vigilant action of CISF personnel not only prevented this major smuggling but also proved that CISF is fully prepared for security and vigilance at India's international airports.
