Maha Kumbh-crowd in religious events-30 died in stampede...
Many stampedes have been reported during the maha Kumbh mela in Prayagraj. 30 people died in the stampede on the day of Mauni Amavasya. However, this is the claim of the government. But if some eyewitnesses are to be believed, the death toll could be even higher. The government and administration were recovering from this incident when a stampede also broke out in the crowd gathered at New delhi Railway Station for bathing in the maha Kumbh. It has been claimed that 18 people have died in this incident too. The question is whether any arrangement has not been made yet to control the crowd in a country like India with a large population. Some reports have claimed that on the day of the incident, 2600 general tickets were purchased at New delhi Railway Station. Even then the railway administration could not guess that such a large number of crowds could come.
However, such incidents of stampede during a crowd gathered in a religious event are not the first time in India. In the year 2008, 146 people were killed in a stampede in the crowd gathered for darshan at naina Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh. Similarly, if we look at the incidents that happened during Kumbh, about 500 people died in the stampede in the maha Kumbh held in Prayag for the first time after independence in the year 1954. The reason for the stampede here is said to be an elephant getting enraged. After this, more than 200 people died in the Kumbh mela held in Haridwar in the year 1986.
If we look at the data of the National Crime Bureau (NCRB), more than 3000 people have lost their lives in stampede incidents in india from the year 1996 to the year 2022. During this period, 3,935 incidents of stampede have occurred. Statistics show that india has not been very successful in controlling the crowd so far. In future, the government needs to pay more attention to this.
