In view of the nationwide protest of lawyers against the proposed Advocate Amendment Bill, 2025, the central government has agreed to reconsider the bill. After the assurance of the government, the strike going on in the district court of delhi since monday has ended.

This decision of the government was welcomed by all the lawyers of delhi Bar Association, who were on strike since last Monday. The lawyers who have been on strike in the district court of delhi for the last one week against the bill said that this is a better step taken by the government. The delhi district Bar Association has welcomed this initiative by the government. At the same time, delhi All district court Bar Association has issued an official letter urging all the lawyers to resume work from 24 february 2025.

Lawyers from all over india opposed the bill

An attempt is being made to suppress the voice of lawyers in the amendment to this bill, as well as an attempt is being made to reduce the power of our organization in this bill. Lawyers not only from delhi but from all over india are united against the amendments to this Act.

Why is the bill being disputed?

However, the most controversial section of this amendment bill is section 35A which states that no advocates' association or its members or any lawyer individually or collectively can call for boycott or abstain from the work of the court, nor can they obstruct the functioning of the court in any way or create any obstruction in the court premises. Under this provision, strikes and boycotts by lawyers are being completely banned whereas traditionally this has been an important means of raising their demands.
