Changing names in delhi is not so easy!amid BJP's demand!

Some bjp MLAs in delhi have selected some areas of delhi while presenting their vision of development. They have demanded to change the names of these areas. The demand for changing names has started to arise for three areas of Delhi. These areas are Najafgarh, Mohammadpur and Mustafabad. The identity of these three names is associated with Muslims. There has been a demand to change the name of Najafgarh to Nahargarh. There is a demand to change the name of Mohammadpur to Madhavpur and there is a demand to change the name of Mustafabad to Shiv Vihar.

When were the names changed in Delhi?

In delhi, the road in front of the Prime Minister's residence, 7 Race Course Road, was renamed Lok kalyan Marg. Rajpath between Rashtrapati Bhavan and india gate has been renamed 'Kartavya Path'. In 2023, the Mughal Garden in the Rashtrapati Bhavan was renamed Amrit Udyan. Similarly, Dalhousie Road has been renamed Dara Shikoh Marg and aurangzeb Lane has been renamed after Abdul Kalam. If we look at the last 8 years, the names of roads and gardens have been changed. This is the first time that a demand has been raised to change the name of a village or area.

What are the guidelines for changing names?

The delhi government has its own guidelines regarding changing names, which states that the practice of changing names is not right. Because every village has its own history. If the name is to be changed, then the reason for it will have to be given and approval will have to be taken from the home Ministry.

Najafgarh's original name was changed - bjp MLA

bjp mla Neelam Pehalwan proposed to change the name of Najafgarh area to 'Nahargarh' and claimed that the Mughals had changed its original name. Neelam Pehalwan, who recently defeated aam aadmi party (AAP)'s tarun kumar from Najafgarh assembly seat by over 29,000 votes, claimed in the delhi assembly that efforts to change the name have been going on for a long time.
