

Chamoli avalanche rescue operation is over!
Rescue work has ended after the massive avalanche that occurred on friday (28 February) in the Mana Pass area near the India-China border in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. A total of 54 workers were trapped in this accident, out of which 46 workers have been rescued safely in the rescue operation and the death of 8 workers has been confirmed. On sunday, the teams of army ITBP and SDRF were engaged in rescue work with the help of helicopters and thermal imaging cameras. Seven helicopters of the army and one helicopter of a private company are engaged in relief work. According to Lieutenant Colonel Ankit Kumar Mishra, continuous efforts continued to search for the workers.

Relief and rescue operations had started after the accident
The workers engaged in construction work near Mana Camp were caught in the avalanche when a part of the glacier broke off due to sudden heavy snowfall and fell on their temporary shelter. Relief and rescue operations were started immediately after the accident, but the operation was hindered due to excessive snowfall and bad weather.
One worker had already gone home
The initial report of the district administration said that 55 workers were stranded, but later it was found that one worker had already returned to his home. So far, five containers have been traced and the workers trapped in them have been safely evacuated, but rescue teams have still not been able to reach three containers.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami once again reached the Disaster Operations Center on sunday morning and reviewed the relief and rescue operations. He instructed the officials to search for the missing workers as soon as possible and inform their families.
