Dhami government's strict attack on liquor mafia…

The uttarakhand government has implemented the Excise Policy-2025 with the aim of making the liquor business in the state more transparent, controlled and revenue oriented. Under this policy, special emphasis has been laid on creating new employment opportunities, encouraging local products and increasing the state's income from liquor sales. For the financial year 2025-26, the government has set an excise revenue target of Rs 5060 crore.

In the last financial year 2024-25, a target of Rs 4439 crore was set, out of which more than Rs 4000 crore has been received. This year the government has set a target of further increase in excise revenue, to achieve which various reforms have been made. The state government has decided to give priority to the natives of uttarakhand in the liquor business. This will provide self-employment to local traders and strengthen their economic condition.

Now the allocation of liquor shops will be done through e-auction process, which will make the entire process transparent. Applicants who get the lowest price tender will be given priority and strict rules will be implemented for the operation of the shops. There will be a strict ban on the sale of liquor in religious places and sensitive areas. If anyone violates the rules, strict action will be taken against him.

Arbitrary prices of liquor will be banned

Now MRP will be applicable on the prices of liquor sold in departmental stores, so that customers will get liquor at the right price and arbitrary prices will be banned. The uttarakhand government has implemented a special incentive scheme to promote wine and other traditional liquor products made from local fruits. Concession has been given in export duty, which will increase the reach of the state's products in the national and international market.

The government will run a large-scale awareness campaign to promote "responsible drinking". In this campaign, people will be made aware about the side effects of alcohol and safe consumption. Keeping in mind the number of seasonal tourists in the mountainous areas, wine made from local fruits and wild berries will be promoted there. This will provide direct economic benefit to local farmers and cultivators.
