Nitesh Rane's statement on the issue of Muslim traders!
Maharashtra cabinet minister Nitesh Rane on sunday (March 2) questioned the decision of the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Ahilyanagar, in which he stopped the proposal banning the business of Muslim traders during the annual Madhi Chi yatra in Madhi village. According to The indian Express, during his visit to Ahilyanagar, Nitesh Rane said, "The BDO should remember that a Hindutva government is in power in Maharashtra. Even though they have stopped the resolution of the Gram panchayat, I appeal to the villagers to pass the resolution again. If all the villagers sign in support of it, how can the BDO reject it?"
Controversial proposal of Gram Panchayat
On february 22, the Gram panchayat of Madhi village in Pathardi taluka passed a resolution banning Muslim traders from setting up shops during the Madhi Chi yatra starting from february 28. The decision sparked controversy, after which the administration intervened.
Fisheries and Ports minister Nitesh Rane termed the decision as 'historic' and said, "Hardline Hindutva supporters in the village have woken up. The decision of the Gram Sabha will give a new direction to the country. If hinduism is challenged, such decisions will be taken all over Maharashtra."
What did radhakrishna Vikhe Patil say?
Earlier, district Guardian minister radhakrishna Vikhe Patil also supported the decision of the Gram Sabha. He said, "The Gram Sabha has the constitutional right to pass such resolutions. The supreme court has also recognized the rights of Gram Sabhas." After the resolution was passed, Ahilyanagar Zilla Parishad CEO ashish Yerekar ordered BDO shivaji Kamble to investigate its validity. After investigation, the BDO declared it 'unconstitutional'.
BDO shivaji Kamble said, "Our investigation found that the quorum required to pass the resolution in the gram sabha was not complete. The resolution had 116 signatures, of which 16 could not be verified. Apart from this, there were other administrative flaws, so it has been declared unconstitutional."
