KSPCB Identifies Seven pollution Resources In The Tunga River.

Bengaluru: The karnataka State pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has identified seven sources of pollutants in the Tunga River, while the district administration is investigating encroachments alongside its banks.

Consistent with a document submitted to the KSPCB, approximately forty-seven point seventy-nine million liters per day (MLD) of sewage turned into generated inside the river's catchment region as of december 2024, with a widespread component coming from Shivamogga city.

The seven identified pollutant resources in Shivamogga district are Harakere, Uragadur, the stretch near Purle, Holebenavalli, Goravinakatte, SPM street, and Thevarchatnahalli.

Officers noted that at the same time as the district has sewage treatment vegetation (STPs) with a blended ability of 46 MLD, the most effective 14.52 MLD is being treated, leaving 33.27 MLD of sewage untreated.

Meanwhile, the Critical Pollutants Control Board (CPCB) submitted facts to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), indicating that whilst fecal coliform ranges were within permissible limits, the biological oxygen demand (BOD) reached a maximum of eight mg/L—exceeding the permissible restriction of three mg/L.

Dissolved oxygen stages ranged from 0.5 to 9.3 mg/L, with the decrease giving up suggesting an excessive discharge of organic material into the river.
