Election Fee To Issue Particular Voter Ids To Remove Duplication Amid Opposition Protests

The election commission on friday stated it would have difficulty over the next three months with specific voter identification card numbers to do away with duplication.

The development comes in advance of the resumption of the budget session of parliament on Monday. The trinamool congress and other opposition events have decided to intensify their protest in opposition to the "cover-up.".

Bengal leader minister mamata banerjee had last month flagged the issue of multiple voters having the same EPIC (elector photograph identity card) numbers. The ec had admitted the irregularity and attributed it to a decentralized and guide mechanism that became followed before the electoral roll database of all states and America was shifted to the ERONET platform.

In a declaration on friday, the ec said: "no matter an EPIC range, an elector who is connected to the electoral roll of a particular polling station can cast his vote at that polling station only and nowhere else. Pattern inquiry of over 100 electors well-known shows that electors with duplicate EPIC numbers are actual electors. Since the allotment of EPIC collection within the 12 months from 2000 to the States/UTs, a few EROs (electoral registration officers) no longer used the suitable collection. The issue of allotment of reproduction numbers due to wrong collection across states/U.S. could not have been detected because the states/U.S. have been independently coping with the electoral roll databases."

The poll authority stated it had determined to clear up this "long-pending issue" within the next three months by making sure a "unique national EPIC number" was given to the prevailing electors having a replica EPIC range. The brand-new machine could be applicable for destiny electors as well, it was introduced.

Trinamool mp Saket Gokhale posted, X: "How was a 'wrong series' allegedly used whilst the ECI's handbook for electoral registration officers has clean pointers? What came about to the software that is supposed to capture this?

"If ECI says this has befallen when you consider that 2000, why was nothing finished for 25 years till cm mamata banerjee pointed it out? And most significantly: Why hasn't ECI still found out what number of reproduction EPICs currently exist?"

A Trinamool force to stumble on the duplication had revealed that Nurjamal from Murshidabad and suman from Haryana's hisar had the same EPIC wide variety. Suman's call seems at the voter lists of both hisar and Murshidabad, but his polling booth isn't like the one in which Nurjamal is registered. The ec has no longer defined how this can have befallen.

The opposition events have hinted at the existence of "floating citizens" who switch their votes to poll-bound states to steer the final results.
