Which groups are there in Syria?

Many different groups are involved in the rebels who captured Damascus by removing Bashar al-Assad in Syria. At the same time, there are some other groups which have captured other areas of Syria. Here, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is considered to be the most powerful group. It occupies most of western Syria. Its leader is ahmed al-Shara, who is also known as Abu Mohammad al-Jolani.

Earlier it was a group named Al-Nusra Front, which was associated with terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State. But in 2017, Al-Shara separated from them and formed HTS. Al-Shara wants to rule only in syriadoes not want to spread jihad all over the world. Therefore, it separated from other groups and formed HTS. It says that it will not implement strict Sharia law and will protect the rights of minorities. However, many countries like turkey and America still consider it a terrorist group. It is also accused of human rights violations. HTS supported the Syrian Salvation government in Idlib, whose prime minister is Mohammed al-Bashir. Now this government has become the interim government of the whole of Syria.
