MoU signed for cruise service in Yamuna?
An important initiative has been taken towards establishing new dimensions of transport and tourism in Delhi. Today an important agreement (MoU) was concluded between the Inland Waterways Authority (IWAI), delhi Development Authority (DDA), delhi Jal Board (DJB), Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FCD) and delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).
Under this agreement, a plan has been made to start boat tourism and ferry services from sonia vihar to Jagatpur. This step will not only promote water transport in delhi, but will also provide a new dimension to tourism.
This project will provide employment and tourism opportunities
This project will not only promote green transportation in delhi, but will also provide new employment and tourism opportunities to the people living on the banks of yamuna river. This agreement is an important effort towards the development of National Waterway-110 (NW-110) declared under the Inland Waterways Act, 2016. Under this project, floating jetties will be set up from sonia vihar to Jagatpur, so that passengers can easily board and disembark the boats. Other basic facilities will also be developed near these jetties.
Boats will run on electric and solar energy
Under the scheme, boats running on solar energy and electric will be operated, which will be environmentally friendly and pollution free. These boats will be able to seat 20-30 passengers and they will run at a speed of 5-7 knots. The maximum depth of the boats will be 1.2 meters, so that they can easily run even in shallow parts of the river. Navigation aid system will be installed in yamuna river for safe operation of boats. Also, fire extinguishing facilities, life jackets, emergency services and other safety measures will be made in the boats. Apart from this, charging stations will be built on the river bank for charging solar energy and electric boats. Parking, toilets, seating area, drinking water, restaurants and means of entertainment will also be developed for the convenience of passengers.
