The Special Cell team received information that delhi riots wanted accused Hanif is about to come near Ghazipur-Ghadoli village road. A special police team was formed on the information. A trap was laid to catch the accused. On reaching Ghazipur-Ghadoli village, Hanif was caught by the police in an ambush. On searching, a semi-automatic pistol and 5 live cartridges were recovered from the accused's possession.

The accused Mohammad Hanif is a resident of shaheen Bagh, Delhi. police said that Hanif used to supply chicken earlier. Later he started driving an auto. In 2016, Hanif got involved in the drug business. After getting into the drug business, Hanif never looked back.

In the year 2019, Jamia nagar area shaheen Bagh became the center of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. police said that Hanif's role in the riots was exposed. Charge sheet has already been filed against co-accused Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha in the case. The court has framed charges on 7 march 2025. police said that Mohammad Hanif is originally from Cooch Behar, West Bengal. He had studied till 10th from Julena school located in New Friends Colony. father used to work as a scrap dealer. When the domestic situation was not good, Hanif left his studies and joined his father's business. In 2016, Hanif met Aslam, a resident of Nizamuddin. Aslam involved him in drug smuggling. In 2018, the Crime Branch arrested him under the NDPS Act. During the CAA-NRC protests, Hanif along with his brother Haroon participated in the riots. In december 2019, he was arrested along with other accused Sharjeel Imam, Asif Iqbal Tanha in the riot case. Later he got bail. He was declared a criminal for not appearing in court. In 2022, another case was registered against him under the NDPS Act. Hanif kept evading arrest.
