delhi Transport minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on tuesday (March 18) made several important announcements to strengthen the public transport system of the capital. He said that from april 1, new electric buses will start running on the roads of delhi, which will provide better facilities to the passengers.
minister Pankaj Singh said, "Meetings have been held with vendors to overcome the shortage of buses, who have assured that there will be no shortage in the supply of buses. Old buses will be removed in a phased manner and new buses will be included, which will lead to a continuous increase in the number of buses." He said that from april 1, the number of buses will be increased every week according to the demand, and by the end of this month 1,900 to 2,000 new buses will hit the roads.
These will include buses of 12 meters and 9 meters length, which are manufactured under Make in India. After removing some technical deficiencies, these buses are ready for operation.
The delhi government will continue free bus service for women, so that their travel remains convenient. Old buses will be removed in a phased manner, and new electric buses will be brought in their place. With regard to Mohalla buses, vendors have been given 6 months' time, within which legal action will be taken against them if they do not submit the required certificate. Apart from this, 9 meter long buses will be run on routes where big buses cannot run. Where the number of passengers is high, the number of buses will be increased, so that the public can get better facilities. The Transport minister said that efforts are being made to make the delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) profitable. Along with providing corruption-free services and continuing free travel for women, the target is to bring DTC into profit in the next financial year.
