Bangladesh will taste the sweetness of Muzaffarnagar's jiggery!

30 metric tonnes of GI-tagged jaggery has been exported from muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh to the neighbouring country Bangladesh. muzaffarnagar is famous as Asia's largest jaggery market. Every year lakhs of tonnes of jaggery is traded in Muzaffarnagar's jaggery market. The specialty of the jaggery here is that it is made without using any chemicals, so it is naturally sweet and rich in nutrients.

The country's agriculture sector is getting a boost

A statement from the Ministry of Commerce and industry said, this initiative marks the beginning of direct export of jaggery from western Uttar Pradesh to bangladesh through Farmer producer Organizations (FPO) and Farmer producer Companies (FPC). The consignment was flagged off on january 30, 2025 under the aegis of Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) and APEDA, which is considered an important step towards promoting the agriculture sector in the global market.

Third success story of FPO of Western UP

Brijnandan Agro Farmer producer Company (FPC) has 545 members, including two women directors. This FPO is active in the export of jaggery, sugarcane products, basmati rice and pulses. With the training and technical support received from BEDF, its members have been able to meet international production and export standards. The ministry informed that this is the third success story of FPO of Western Uttar Pradesh in agricultural exports with the support of APEDA. Earlier in 2023 and 2024, Basmati rice was exported to lebanon and oman by Neer adarsh Organic Farmer producer Company Limited.
