The bharatiya janata party (BJP) and its supporters frequently position themselves as protectors of indian culture, morality, and ethical discourse. However, their stance on free speech often reveals a stark contradiction—while they condemn comedians and critics like Kunal Kamra for using "foul language," their own party leaders have repeatedly engaged in offensive and communal rhetoric without consequence.

Case in Point: T raja Singh’s Hate Speech
T raja Singh, a controversial bjp mla from Telangana, has a long history of making inflammatory remarks. In a widely circulated video, he used derogatory slurs like “Mdcd”* from a public stage, directly targeting a specific community. Despite this blatant violation of ethical discourse, bjp leaders and supporters remained largely silent or, worse, defended his statements under the pretext of “freedom of speech.”

Selective Outrage:
The hypocrisy becomes even more apparent when bjp supporters express outrage over comedians and political satirists like Kunal Kamra. Kamra, known for his sharp criticism of the government, often faces backlash, legal cases, and social media attacks for his use of language. Yet, when bjp figures indulge in far more offensive rhetoric, their supporters conveniently ignore it or justify it as “unfiltered truth.”

A Pattern of Hate Speech from bjp Leaders
T raja Singh is not an isolated case. Several BJP-affiliated leaders have been caught making deeply offensive remarks, yet face minimal or no repercussions:

Anurag Thakur (Union Minister) – Infamously led chants of “Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro saalon ko” during a campaign rally, inciting violence against anti-CAA protesters.

Kapil Mishra (BJP Leader, Delhi) – His incendiary speech was widely blamed for triggering the 2020 Delhi riots, yet he continues to hold political clout.

Pragya Thakur (BJP MP) – Referred to Nathuram Godse, the assassin of mahatma gandhi, as a “patriot” in Parliament, drawing criticism but no serious consequences.

The BJP’s selective stance on freedom of speech exposes its deep-seated hypocrisy. While they attack comedians and critics for their language, they shield their own leaders even when they indulge in hate speech. If the party truly cares about maintaining civility in public discourse, it must hold its own members accountable first—only then can it claim the moral high ground.

What do you think? Should free speech be equal for all, or only for those aligned with power?
