The bharatiya janata party (BJP) and its supporters frequently claim to uphold morality, discipline, and national unity. However, their selective outrage over “offensive language” exposes a glaring double standard. When a comedian like Kunal Kamra uses satire against the government, bjp supporters unleash a moral crusade. Yet, when their own leaders indulge in blatant hate speech, silence prevails. The latest example? bjp mp Ramesh Bidhuri’s communal slurs against a Muslim MP.
The Ramesh Bidhuri Incident
During a session in Parliament, bjp mp Ramesh Bidhuri openly used derogatory slurs like “Katuà” and “Katmullà” while addressing Muslim mp Kunwar Danish Ali. These terms, historically used to demean and marginalize Muslims, were uttered in one of the highest institutions of indian democracy. Shockingly, instead of facing strict disciplinary action, Bidhuri was merely given a light reprimand, and some within the bjp even justified or downplayed his remarks.
Selective Outrage: The RW Double Standard
Had such language been used against a bjp leader, right-wing (RW) supporters would have launched massive protests, demanding arrests and legal action. But when a bjp leader openly abuses a Muslim mp in Parliament, their silence speaks volumes. This is the same ecosystem that regularly attacks journalists, activists, and comedians for their words while shielding its own leaders from accountability.
The Ramesh Bidhuri controversy once again highlights the BJP’s hypocrisy on free speech. If they truly believe in ethical discourse, why do they remain silent when their own leaders engage in hate speech? The real issue is not offensive language, but who uses it. Criticism against the government is intolerable, but communal slurs from bjp leaders are excusable. The double standards are clear.
Until accountability is applied equally, BJP’s lectures on morality and decorum remain nothing but empty rhetoric.
