Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar has denied saying that the Constitution will be amended to provide for Muslim reservation in the state. On monday (March 24), he denied his statement and said that his statement has been misrepresented. Shivakumar also warned that he may consider bringing a breach of privilege motion on this issue.
Shivkumar clarified, 'I am an experienced leader and have been in the assembly for the last 36 years. I never talked about changing the constitution. I only said that many changes happen after different decisions. Whatever reservation has been given comes under the backward classes only.' He further said, 'My statement is being presented in a wrong way. I am thinking of bringing a breach of privilege motion on this and will fight this matter.'
There was uproar over Shivkumar's statement
After Shivkumar's alleged statement, BJP protested on this issue. Raising this issue in the Parliament, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said, 'It is unacceptable for a person holding a constitutional post to talk about changing the constitution to give reservation to Muslims. congress should give clarification on this and Shivkumar should be removed from the post.'
BJP released a video and made the allegation
The karnataka unit of the bjp shared a video of Shivakumar on social media, claiming that the congress is trying to change the Constitution for the Muslim vote bank. In the video, when the anchor asked Shivakumar if the Constitution allows reservation based on religion, he reportedly said, "Yes, I agree. Wait till the court's decision comes. Many changes are taking place and the Constitution will also change."

On this issue, bjp state president BY Vijayendra said, 'Shivkumar's statement has revealed the real face of Congress.' Meanwhile, bjp mp from Dakshina Kannada Captain Brijesh Chowta accused the state government of tampering with the basic principles of the Constitution for the Muslim vote bank. He said, 'BJP will protest strongly against this decision and will not let any attempt to weaken the Constitution succeed.'
