Committee to review salary and allowances of MLAs in Delhi!

delhi assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has constituted a special ad hoc committee to review the salary, allowances and other facilities of MLAs. This committee will examine the status of the existing salary and allowances and give its recommendations on possible amendments, so that the MLAs can get appropriate facilities. Five members have been included in this ad hoc committee constituted by the Speaker. The chairman of this committee will be Abhay Verma, while other members include surya Prakash Khatri, Poonam Sharma, sanjeev Jha and Vishesh Ravi. These members have been given the responsibility to review keeping in mind the workload, responsibilities and necessary resources of the MLAs.

Why are questions being raised on salary and facilities?

At present, the monthly salary of MLAs in delhi is Rs 90,000, which includes travel allowance, telephone allowance, secretarial assistance and other facilities apart from salary. The salary of delhi MLAs is considered to be less as compared to other states

In the year 2022, the delhi government had sent a proposal to increase the salary of MLAs to the Center, but it was not approved. At that time the salary was increased from Rs 54,000 to Rs 90,000. Now once again this matter is in discussion.

What will the committee do?

• Will review the current status of salary and allowances received by the MLAs.

• Will compare it with the facilities given to MLAs of other states.

• Will prepare a report keeping in mind the increasing workload and responsibilities of the MLAs.

• Will give recommendations for amendment as per the need.
