Who doesn't know bollywood actress Preity Zinta. There was a time when her name was famous in Bollywood. It was said that in that era, if Preity was in a film, it was almost certain to be a hit. However, now her name is coming up in the case of the Rs 122 crore scam of New india Co-operative Bank. According to the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of mumbai Police, Zinta was given a concession of Rs 1.55 crore in the loan settlement of Rs 18 crore given by the bank. This loan had become a non-performing asset (NPA) for the bank.
Understand the whole matter
On 7 january 2011, preity zinta was given a loan of Rs 18 crore. In return, she had mortgaged a residential flat in mumbai and a property in Shimla, whose total value was Rs 27.41 crore.
She had to pay Rs 11.40 crore by november 2012, but due to delay in payment, the loan was declared NPA on march 31, 2013. At that time the outstanding amount was Rs 11.47 crore. Later, in april 2014, the bank offered to pay the remaining amount by giving a discount of Rs 1.55 crore. Zinta paid the remaining amount and cleared the account. But now this concession has become a part of the investigation into suspicious financial activities in the bank.
EOW is investigating
EOW is investigating several loan accounts approved in this bank between 2010 and 2014. So far eight people have been arrested in this case, including the bank's former general manager hitesh Mehta. Mehta is accused of embezzling Rs 122 crore and his polygraph test has also been done. Now there is a plan to do his brain mapping test so that the trail of money and other people involved can be traced. Apart from this, former chairman of the bank Hiren bhanu and his wife Gauri bhanu have also been declared wanted in this case.
