Congress opposed this decision and called it a political strategy...
Politics has heated up after the proposal to merge two municipal corporations in Rajasthan. The jaipur local Self government Department has issued an order to merge two municipal corporations of jaipur - jaipur Heritage and jaipur Greater. After this merger, it will be known as 'Jaipur Municipal Corporation'.
According to The indian Express, this decision will come into effect after the end of both the terms. This order issued by director of local Self government Inderjit Singh on march 27 has reversed the division done during the congress government in 2019. The ashok gehlot government had divided the municipal corporation into two parts and increased the number of wards from 90 to 250. Now the bjp government has decided to merge them again, which will reduce the number of wards to 150.
congress opposed
The congress has strongly opposed this decision. congress leaders say that the bjp is doing this for political gain. Last month, congress had also protested in jaipur against this decision. Recently, in the meeting of jaipur City district congress Committee, the leaders announced to fight a 'do or die' battle against this decision. congress has appealed to its workers to register as many objections as possible against the new ward delimitation.
bjp is calling the population of more than 50 lakh as 32 lakh - Congress
congress leader Rohit Bohra accused the bjp government of misrepresenting the population of Jaipur. He said, "The government is claiming that the population of jaipur is 32 lakh, whereas according to the voter list this number is more than 50 lakh. The bjp government is trying to weaken the vote bank of the congress and re-determine the wards in its favor."
At the same time, bjp leaders say that reducing the number of wards will reduce the financial burden on the administration and improve the functioning of the municipal body. Currently, the municipal corporation officials are engaged in the process of new delimitation.
