Did Putin make trump a part of his strategy..!?

It has been three months since donald trump took office as the President of the United States. In this short period, he has made many controversial decisions. Especially, actions like cracking down on illegal immigration and imposing tariffs on countries around the world have reflected his policies. During the election, trump promised to stop wars if he came to power. However, his efforts have not been fruitful so far. Especially, his efforts to end the Ukraine-Russia war have failed. It seems that good relations are continuing between US President donald trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. trump is focused on fulfilling his goals through these relations. As part of this, he is trying to end the Ukraine-Russia war.
He tried to convince ukraine to surrender unconditionally. He also held talks with Russian President Putin. However, the conditions being set by Putin were not acceptable to the United States. russia has gained a strategic upper hand in the ukraine war. Since russia invaded ukraine in 2022, Putin has had goals such as keeping ukraine under his influence, preventing NATO expansion, and weakening Ukraine's sovereignty. After trump was elected president for a second term in 2025, he began talks with Putin, hoping to end this war quickly. In a phone call on february 12, 2025, trump tried to broker a deal to end the war. But Putin overrode his terms. The trump team's admission that it was 'impossible' to give up Russian-occupied territories in ukraine and pressure on ukraine to withdraw from NATO were in line with Putin's goals.

Trump has always respected Putin personally. He has described him as a 'smart' and 'pragmatic' leader. After his presidency began in 2025, trump shifted US foreign policy in favor of Russia. For example, he took steps such as cutting military aid to ukraine, weakening ties with NATO, and promoting economic deals with Russia. These decisions reduced pressure on Putin from the US. They strengthened his economic and political position. In the second conversation on march 18, trump and Putin decided to continue bilateral talks to establish peace in Ukraine. This left europe and ukraine alone. Putin used his image as a 'dealmaker' to his advantage. Although trump said during the election campaign that he could end the war 'in 24 hours', Putin delayed the talks and imposed his conditions. In the talks held in march, Putin agreed to only a 30-day suspension of attacks on energy infrastructure instead of a full ceasefire. This was much less than trump had hoped for.

In this way, Putin made trump part of his strategy. He used his hasty nature to his advantage. Through his relationship with trump, Putin has reestablished russia as a world power. Trump’s suggestion that russia be reinstated in the G7, easing economic sanctions, and acknowledging Russia’s role in the Middle east were major victories for Putin. These actions weakened efforts to isolate russia internationally. The Biden administration has vigorously pursued this. Putin’s victory should be seen as a political and diplomatic victory rather than a military one. Trump’s pro-Russia policies, pressure on ukraine, and acceptance of Putin’s terms in negotiations have achieved his long-term goals. Although trump worked closely with Putin in the hope of ending the ukraine war, he ultimately led to agreements that strengthened Russia’s dominance. In this way, Putin has outsmarted trump with his strategic acumen.
