How long can a leader remain the PM without winning election?

Every time in the elections held in the country, political parties try their best to win. Be it any election, PM or CM, some parties announce the name of the contender even before the victory, while some do so after the victory. Usually people think that only if someone is a member of both the houses of parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) can one become the prime minister of the country, but this is not true. There have been many stalwarts in the country who remained prime minister even after not being a member of the Lok Sabha. But let us know how this happens.

The biggest condition to become the prime minister is that the contender for the PM should be a member of both the houses. There are 545 MPs in the Lok Sabha, who are elected by the public. At the same time, the members of rajya sabha are elected with the vote or support of the public representative. In such a situation, to become the prime minister, there should be at least 50% support in the Lok Sabha. If for some reason the prime minister is unable to prove his majority in the Lok Sabha, he has to resign.

Indira Gandhi, HD Devegowda, inder kumar Gujral and manmohan singh are some of the names who became Prime Ministers just by being members of Rajya Sabha. Meaning they became the head of the country without winning the election, but how? What is the rule for this? The rule for this is that in india the prime minister or any other minister can remain in office for six months without being a member of parliament, but he will have to become a member of any house of parliament within six months. If he fails to do so, he will have to resign. But this does not mean that every time you can remain in the post of minister for six months even without being a member of the House.
