The sixth summit of bengal Initiative for Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation i.e. BIMSTEC is going to be held in bangkok on 4th April. Earlier, a meeting of senior officials has been held on 2nd april and now today i.e. on 3rd april, a meeting of foreign ministers is to be held. PM Modi has reached bangkok for this ceremony and he has been given a grand welcome there. This conference is to be held tomorrow. Member countries of BIMSTEC

BIMSTEC is a multilateral organization in the Asia region. Its member countries are Bangladesh, india, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, nepal and Thailand. Its headquarters is in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. In this way, BIMSTEC works as a link between South Asia and South east Asia. BIMSTEC has membership of all major countries of South Asia except Afghanistan, pakistan and Maldives. It was formed in 1997 to enhance economic cooperation and development between Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, india and Thailand.

Objective of BIMSTEC

When narendra modi became the prime minister of the country in the year 2019, the leaders of BIMSTEC member states were invited as honorary guests in his swearing-in ceremony. The objective of BIMSTEC is to create an environment to ensure rapid economic growth in South Asia and South east Asian countries, to increase equality and participation in the regions, to ensure dynamic and mutual cooperation among countries of common interest.
