Bihar governor admitted the need for reform in Waqf Board!

Bihar governor Arif Mohammad Khan said on saturday that the functioning of the Waqf Board needs a lot of improvement and this will be possible by passing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill by Parliament. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, Khan said that there are many Waqf Boards in Patna, but none of them runs an orphanage or hospital.

What did governor Arif Mohammad Khan say?

Khan said, "There is a need for a lot of improvement in the functioning of the Waqf Board. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill passed by both the Houses of parliament is a concrete step in this direction." The governor said, "It is said that the property of Waqf belongs to Allah, but on the contrary the people of the board are busy fighting cases." Khan claimed that relatives of the board members are taking advantage of the Waqf properties. He said, "This is un-Islamic." He said that the people sitting in the board have no concern for the betterment of the poor. Sharing his experience as a former minister of the Waqf Ministry in Uttar Pradesh, Khan said, "There too the members of the board were busy fighting cases related to land and property disputes. I am repeating once again that the Waqf Board is for the welfare of the destitute. " Let us tell you that the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has been approved by President Draupadi Murmu. After this it has now become a law. The government said in a notification, 'The Waqf Amendment Act passed by the parliament has got the approval of the President on april 5, 2025 and it will be published for general information.

288 votes were cast in favor and 232 in opposition

Earlier on april 3, it was approved after about 12 hours of debate in the Lok Sabha. In this debate, 288 votes were cast in favour and 232 against. After that, on april 4, after a long debate, the Wakf (Amendment) Bill was also passed by the Rajya Sabha. During this, there was a heated argument between the ruling party and the opposition. This bill was debated for about 14 hours in the rajya sabha and 128 votes were cast in favour and 95 against it. After this, it was passed.
