These three schemes became game changers for farmers!
Now the slogan of "Har Khet Ko Pani" is becoming a reality in Uttar Pradesh. Under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, there has been a historic improvement in the irrigation system of the state in the last eight years. Figures show that while the total irrigated area in UP in 2017 was only 82.58 lakh hectares, now it has increased to 133 lakh hectares. That is, an increase of more than 60 percent. This has directly benefited more than 185 lakh farmers of the state. The government claims that now 86 percent of the cultivable land is irrigated. Along with this, the agricultural area has also increased rapidly, making UP the only state in the country where 76 percent of the total land is being used in farming.
Saryu, arjun Sahayak and Ban Sagar Project became game changers
chief minister Yogi gave impetus to many old and incomplete projects under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana for irrigation. The most important among these is the Saryu Canal National Project, which was completed after about 40 years. This project benefits 30 lakh farmers of 9 districts of Purvanchal. Under this, 6,623 km of canals were built. arjun Sahayak Project was also started in 2008, but it was completed rapidly after 2017. This provided irrigation facility to 69,000 hectares of land and benefited 1.49 lakh farmers. 2 lakh farmers are also benefiting from the Ban Sagar Project and 1.5 lakh hectares of land has been irrigated.
976 irrigation projects completed, capacity of 5 lakh hectares will increase
So far 976 small and big projects have been completed. The government aims to provide irrigation facility to 5 lakh hectares of additional land in the coming time through projects like Kanhar, Madhya ganga Nagar Phase-2 and Rohin River Barrage. This will benefit 7 lakh more farmers. Apart from this, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's river linking project is also being taken forward rapidly. Under this, on completion of the Ken-Betwa link project, 2.51 lakh hectares of farmland in Jhansi, Mahoba, Banda and Lalitpur of Bundelkhand will get water and drinking water will be available to 21 lakh people.
