The meeting held at mehbooba Mufti's G4 Gupkar official residence in srinagar was attended by prominent PDP leaders who discussed in detail the implications of the delay in addressing Waqf-related matters on the legislative platform.

party sources said mehbooba mufti expressed serious concern over the Assembly's silence on the issue and described it as a matter of deep religious and administrative importance.

"The failure to pass a resolution on the Waqf Act is not just a political lapse, it affects the religious sentiment and autonomy of our institutions," she reportedly told party colleagues. Waqf properties, which include dargahs, mosques and graveyards, have long been central to the religious and cultural fabric of the Muslim community in the region. Any delay or ambiguity in governing their administration through proper legislation has given rise to apprehension within the community.

The leaders present at the meeting stressed the urgent need for a clear law that protects waqf properties from mismanagement or political interference. They also called upon the government to clarify its position on the Waqf Act and ensure the sanctity of religious bodies.
