The action was taken under Article 311 (2) (c) of the Constitution, which allows dismissal without departmental inquiry in matters of national security. Those sacked include Ishtiaq ahmed Malik, a senior assistant in the Public Works Department, and Basharat ahmed Mir, an assistant wireless operator in the kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir Police. Officials said both had 'deep roots' in the terrorist network and were a 'serious threat' to national security.

Accused of working with Hizbul Mujahideen

In 2000, Malik was accused of working with the banned terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen. Sources said he not only helped build the Over Ground Worker (OGW) network but also provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists. Investigation revealed that he had a role in organising violent mobs during the unrest that followed the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in 2016.

Malik's name cropped up during the interrogation of Hizbul activist Mohammad Ishaq, who was arrested in May 2022. Both were later chargesheeted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Serious allegations against both

Basharat Ahmad Mir, who held sensitive posts in the wireless wing of the kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir Police, was allegedly in touch with a Pakistani intelligence operative and was found sharing classified information. His dismissal was necessary to prevent any compromise with India's integrity and sovereignty, sources said.

Action taken against 70 employees so far

This takes the total number of government employees dismissed for terror links during lg Manoj Sinha's tenure to over 70. The LG's administration has adopted a comprehensive approach to dismantle the terror ecosystem, which includes security action as well as developmental initiatives aimed at rooting out extremism.
