Waqf Amendment Act 2025 Sparks Nationwide Unrest..!?

The Waqf Amendment Act 2025, passed by the Modi government to bring transparency and accountability to the management of Waqf properties, has triggered massive unrest across India. While the bjp called it a step toward justice—especially for underprivileged Muslim communities like the Pasmanda—the Act has provoked severe backlash from hardline groups.

Murshidabad in Flames:

The worst violence broke out in Murshidabad, West Bengal, where Hindu families faced:

  • Mob attacks post-Friday prayers
  • Shops and homes looted
  • Temples desecrated
  • Families forced to flee

Over 150 arrests have been made, but communal tensions remain dangerously high.

Nationwide Protests Escalate

Unrest wasn’t limited to Bengal:

  • Hyderabad: Protesters demanded cm Revanth reddy oppose the Act
  • Silchar, Assam: Violence erupted with police, involving 400+ agitators
  • Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Hosur: Protests varied in intensity
  • Delhi (Jama Masjid): Peaceful, but rhetoric mirrored elsewhere

BJP’s Stand: No Compromise

BJP leaders insist the Waqf Board is not above the Constitution. The Act, they say:

  • Targets land mafias and clerical monopolies
  • Ends decades of misuse of Waqf land
  • Empowers neglected Muslim communities

The Modi government has refused to withdraw the Act, promising strict enforcement and a nationwide awareness campaign (April 20–May 5) to educate Muslims on the benefits of the reform.

Political Reactions and Accusations:

Opposition parties like the Congress, TMC, and AIMIM have condemned the Act but failed to denounce the violence or hate speech.

BJP’s Tarun Chugh compared mamata to “a modern Jinnah,” accusing her of appeasement politicsShehzad Poonawalla called it “state-sponsored violence” targeting Hindus in Bengal.
