Big decision, all EWS certificates issued will be investigated!
Preparations have been made for major action regarding the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate in Delhi. According to the minutes of the Revenue Department meeting held on 7 april 2025 under the chairmanship of chief minister Rekha Gupta, the government decided that all the EWS certificates issued so far will be investigated. It was mentioned in the record of the meeting that the government fears that these certificates have been issued to a large number of ineligible people. Due to this, the Revenue Department was directed not to issue new EWS certificates till further orders.
The Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, Divisional Commissioner and all district Magistrates were present in the meeting. The Divisional Commissioner gave a presentation on the roles of the department and told that in Delhi, the responsibility of implementation of schemes, departmental coordination and monitoring has now become more important than the traditional responsibilities related to law and order and land revenue. The meeting discussed the launch of three new schemes for the year 2025-26, which included district Project Fund Scheme (₹53 crore), Disaster Relief Fund and Emergency Operation Centre (₹30 crore), and modernization of sub-registrar offices.
The minutes of the meeting also record that the department has identified 11 key work areas, including strengthening revenue offices, recruitment of technical staff, reorganization of departmental boundaries, making e-district and e-court systems faceless and increasing revenue through stamp duty. Instructions were given that the action plan and timeline of these schemes be prepared within 15 days and sent to the Chief Minister's Office.
The minutes also record that the chief minister directed the district Magistrates to organize public hearing camps once a week, especially in areas which are far from revenue offices. Apart from this, instructions were also given to increase the number of field visits, submit inspection reports, share 'before and after' photographs, inspect JJ clusters, night shelters and private schools, and clean and decorate flyovers and walls through CSR funding.
