What is America's Golden Dome program?
According to a Reuters report, Elon Musk's company SpaceX has got the contract to build the 'Golden Dome'. In this project, two more companies - Palantir (which makes software) and Anduril (which makes drones) will work together with SpaceX. These three companies have been started by people who have been big supporters of Donald Trump. The Golden Dome will be very different and very advanced from any technology made so far. Its range will be so high that till now no missile in the world can go this far. Elon Musk's company is preparing this system in such a way that it can protect America from hypersonic missiles, simultaneous drone attacks (drone swarms) and any threat related to artificial intelligence.
Under this project, Elon Musk's company SpaceX will build more than 1000 satellites. The job of these satellites will be to keep an eye on whether any threat is moving towards America while revolving around the earth. If any threat comes towards America, these satellites will immediately identify it and attack it and destroy it.
Apart from this, there will be 200 such satellites which will be equipped with missiles and lasers. Their job will be to shoot down enemy missiles in the air itself. This means that any missile attack on America from above will become almost impossible. According to the report, SpaceX is preparing a part of this system called "custody layer". This will be a satellite network that will work to quickly identify missiles, track their direction and decide whether they are coming towards America or not.
