India celebrated its 70th Independence Day and nation remembered its freedom fighters paying floral tributes to them. During Independence Day people always remember Nehru,Gandhi,Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and others. But there are many who were known for their firepower and deserve same respect on part with Gandhi,Nehru and others. 


Name of Veer Savarkar increase tempers for and against. But many are unaware that he coined the word sansad for Parliament. He found 'Abhinav Bharat Society'a and participated in Swadeshi movement. He also wrote book titled “The Indian War Of Independence 1857”. He was imprisoned in Andaman Cellular Jail when he tried to escape from London via Marseilles.

Aurobindo Ghosh, Indian civil servant who completed his education in UK was prosecuted for spreading sedition through paper Vande Maaram. He migrated to French Pondicherry and set up ashram there.

Ashfaqulla Khan was hanged by British for his involvement in the Kakori dacoity incident. He worked under Ram Prasad Bismil and planned to study engineering but was betrayed by his friend who disclosed his identity and whereabouts to the britishers.

Jatindra Nath Das participated in non voilence movement and was part of Anushilan dal. He staged hunger strike for 63 days in Lahore jail which led to his death leaving entire nation stunned. 


Matangini Hazara continued carrying national flag even after being shot thrice shouting Vande Mataram. Senapati Bapat,leader of Mulshi Satyagraha got the title Senapathi for hoisting national flag for the first time after Independence in Pune. He was jailed for speaking for vandalism. 


Tara Rani Srivastava along with her husband led protests in front of Siwan police station. Both fought holding Indian flag despite being shot. Peer Ali Khan fought in 1957 freedom struggle. He was given capital punishment along with 14 others. 


Garimella Satyanarayana from Andhra Pradesh used his writing skills to motivate people with his songs and poems. Tirupur Kumaran  was the founder of the Desa Bandhu Youth Association. He was killed during a protest march against the colonial government on 11th January, 1932, for holding a flag of Indian nationalists that was banned by the British. Though he succumbed to injuries, he was found dead holding the flag.


Rajkumari Gupta palyed key role in Kakori case and in charge of supplying revolvers to those involved in the operation. Raj Kumari hid the firearms in her undergarment and went to deliver them, with her 3 year old son alongside. Ironically though, on being arrested, she was disowned by her marital home.


Birsa Munda died at a young age of 25 and he headed the Millenarian movement that inspired the tribal belt of modern day Bihar and Jharkhand to go against the British Raj in the late 19th century.


Durgabhai Deshmukh  led numerous Satyagraha movements and was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and the Planning Commission of India. She played a prominent role in Indian freedom movement. At the Khadi exhibition in 1923, she was in charge of ensuring that all visitors had proper tickets before entering. She even forbade Pandit Nehru from entering until the organizers gave him a ticket and she let him pass.


Amadi Bano Begam was the first muslim woman to join freedom fight.  Abadi Bano Begum addressed a political gathering from behind a purdah and was one of the first women to do it.


Parbati Giri was just 16 and she was imprisoned for 2 years and after Independence she served India and was known as the Mother Teresa of Western Orissa.


Velu Nachiyar was the first queen to fight war against the British. The former princess of Ramanathapuram opposed the British rule even before the Sepoy mutiny.


Khudiram bose was the yooungest freedom fighter when was was hanged at the age of 18 years, 8 months and 8 days old. Benoy Basu, Badal Gupta and Dinesh Gupta wore European outfits and they killed the brutal Inspector General of Police, Colonel NS Simpson. However they were caught at the age of  22, 18 and 19 years. Benoy took a cyanide pill while the other two shot themselves to avoid capture.


Tirot Sing was the chief of the Khasi people. He died while fighting Britishers when they tried to take over Khasi hills. Bhogeswarai Phukanani was shot down brutally by the British  for launching the revolutionary mass program, the 'Bharbhuj'.


Kushal Konwar The President of Sarupathar Congress Committee was an Indian Tai-Ahom freedom fighter from Assam. He is the only martyr who was hanged in the last phase of the Quit India Movement of 1942-43.
