India has demonstrated significant progress in the Human Development Index (HDI), marking a notable improvement in its global ranking. As per the United Nations report, india now stands at the 134th position out of 193 countries, reflecting an enhancement compared to previous years.

The latest UN report titled "Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining Cooperation in a Polarized World" highlights India's advancement in various facets of human development. After experiencing a decline in the HDI ranking for two consecutive years, india has shown improvement in the 2021-2022 index.


Over the past 34 years, india has witnessed remarkable advancements in human development indicators. Life expectancy at birth has notably increased from approximately 58 years in 1990 to 67.7 years, marking a significant rise of 9.1 years. Additionally, expected years of schooling and average years of schooling have seen notable increments of 4.6 years and 3.8 years, respectively. Moreover, india has observed a substantial surge of approximately 287 percent in per capita income (Gross National Income or GNI).


Furthermore, india has made commendable strides in reducing gender inequality, with the Gender Inequality Index (GII) value standing at 0.437, surpassing the global and South Asian averages. The per capita gross national income in india has also witnessed growth, increasing from US $6,542 to US $6,951, equivalent to approximately Rs 5.75 lakh in indian currency.


The UN report thoroughly examines various aspects of human life development and incorporates them into the index, highlighting India's achievements in a comprehensive manner. These advancements underscore India's commitment to fostering inclusive growth and enhancing the well-being of its citizens.
