Ravan Vadh: How did Ravana become a demon?

Every year on the last day of Shardiya Navratri, the effigy of Ravana is burnt. It is said that on this day Lord Rama killed Raavan. The supreme scholar, the great mighty Ravana was born to Pulastya, the son of Brahma (Ravana was Brahmin by Birth). In such a situation, the question must be arising in your mind how did Ravana become the ruler of the demon despite being born in the Brahmin clan? Ravana was the knower of 4 Vedas and 6 darshan, despite which impure demonic conduct entered into him, why did this happen? Let us know, what is the reason for Ravana becoming a demon.

Ravana was cursed by the sages

According to mythology, once two sages Sanat and Sanatana came to Baikunth Dham to have the darshan of Lord Vishnu. There, the two gatekeepers of Lord Vishnu, jai and Vijay, refused to allow him to enter. Due to this both the sages got angry and cursed them to be demons. In such a situation, jai and Vijay realized their mistake and the sages started apologizing to Sanat and Sanatana. When Lord vishnu came to know about this, he urged the sages to forgive jai and Vijay.

At the behest of Lord Vishnu, the sages, while reducing the intensity of the curse, said that they would get freedom from this only after being a demon for three births. Also, to get rid of this, they have to die from the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

In this way, jai and Vijay were first born as Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha where they were saved from Lord Vishnu's narasimha avatar and Varaha incarnation.

In the second birth, he was born as Ravana and Kumbhkaran where Lord Rama saved him. In the third birth, he took birth as Shishupala and Dantavakra where Shri krishna had saved him.
