The forest department has permitted devotees to trek to Sathuragiri on the occasion of Aadi Amavasya 2024. Located in the Western Ghats near Wathirairuppu in Virudhunagar district, Sathuragiri Hills attracts a large number of devotees from both local and outside.

One of the most famous shiva trekking sites in tamil Nadu, this hill is also known as the Land of Siddhas.  Lord shiva appears in five types of Lingas in the dense forest.

It is not possible to visit this hill on all days.  Devotees are allowed to trek the hill only for eight days a month – Amavasya, Pournami, and Pradosham.

Whenever permission is granted, devotees visit the hill in large numbers,  but on Aadi Amavasya, Thai Amavasya, Navaratri, and Sivarathiri days, the crowd at Sathuragiri hill is a little more.

With Aadi Amavasya approaching, devotees from all over tamil Nadu are expected to trek to Sathuragiri this year too. Usually, during Aadi Amavasya, permission is granted to trek to Sathuragiri for 10 days.

But since  2021, the forest department has not allowed devotees to trek for up to 10 days due to security reasons. It also banned overnight stays in the mountains. Last year, the permit was given up to six days during Aadi Amavasya,  this year it has been reduced to five days.

According to a statement issued by the forest department, devotees can trek the hill from  6 am to 12  noon for five days from august 1 to 5. It has also been said that if there is rainfall on the permitted days, the permission will be canceled.   Due to the dense forest area, it is forbidden to stay in the hills at night and to carry inflammable materials.
